How to jam with a group?

-I'm a bassist & have made the mistake of basically ''bedroom practicing'' the past two years apart from lessons. Naturally I'd be expected to be able to hold my weight in a jam session after 2 years playing bass but because i've never tried jamming, i've very little clue on how to do it.Just get together and practice music or create new music.
