Opera (soprano divas) question- please answer me?

-I've just started liking opera. I've "fallen in love with" Roberta Peters, Montserrat Caball茅, Maria Callas, Anna Netrebko, Diana Damrau, Leontyne Price and Birgit Nilsson. I just wonder why there are different sopranos for different types of roles. For example: why can't Roberta Peters sing Turandot? Or Leontyne Price sing Lucia Di Lammermoor? Or can she if she wants to? Do the sopranos choose which roles they want to sing?

And why are some sopranos singing higher notes than other? It seems like Damrau and a few other sopranos (f. ex. Natalie Dessay) sing the soprano high F. Why don't the others sing it? Or do they? Which of the sopranos mentioned above use the high F?

Are there different types of sopranos?Just like with speaking voices, each singing voice is completely unique. There are actually multiple general classes of sopranos (lyric (the "normal" ones), dramatic (a much heavier sound), and coloratura (extremely light, can sing all of the really high notes)), but in addition to that, all of these women mentioned simply have different voices...some are able to hit the high F, and some can't.

As for why some are chosen for certain roles...would you cast Angelina Jolie to play a masculine female football coach? Would you cast Betty White to play a stripper? Different people fit different roles, and while appearance isn't quite as important in the opera world, the way a woman is able to interpret a role emotionally greatly determines who she's able to play and who she can't.
