On a scale of 1-10, how hard is it to learn how to play the Piano?

-I think the Piano is a beautiful instrument, and I've envied those who play it fluently. I want to learn, but when I tried playing a chord and the main melody at the same time, my mind couldn't concentrate on the two. It's like looking left and right at the same time. But I know it's possible because others can play it and make it look easy. Is it just a case of practice? Or developing your mental concentration to focus on two things at once?Depending on how musically inclined you are. Reading music is the hard part to master. If you know how then I would say like 5 and if not then 8-9.

I took piano for 8 years and I know what u mean about left and right hand. What I found helpful was mastering the left hand (or right hand if you are left handed) first so that you get the hard part out of the way, and then move to the other hand and master that and then put them together.

But if you are JUST starting, I would suggest starting smaller and play one handed melodies and maybe even buy a finger excersise book (you can find them at music stores). You wont be able to just jump right into Bach and Mozart and stuff right away.

Also, play things you enjoy playing because that makes practice easier. Good Luck! The key is to get a good teacher and to not get discouraged. If you have only just started, it is going to take time before you can even put two hands together. Try playing each separately and getting a feel for it, then you can put them together. Probably the hardest thing about piano is being able to have each hand doing something independently of the other. This just takes practice. Now for how easy the piano is... at the beginning it is one of the easiest instruments. You don't have to have a great ear because the note is already tuned (well, depending on if you're piano is tuned), and you just have to press a key in order for the note to come out. However, once you start getting more advanced, it is very difficult because you are now focusing on multiple notes at once. At an advanced level, the piano is just as hard if not harder than many other instruments.

Best of luck! If you have any questions about where to start feel free to ask!
As with anything, the more time and effort you put into it, the better you'll become.

Natural aptitude for a particular musical instrument really depends on the person - some find it easy, some find it extremely difficult.

I've been playing the guitar for over 35 years, and when I started, I found it to be quite natural and easy to get started. I've tried to play the piano and just cant get the knack of it.

Put the time in, and you'll do fine!
I love the piano too. I started when I was little taking lessons, playing easier things like "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", that only involved one hand. As I leveled up, (in music reading books, where you learn more about different notes and ways to play them) I got into two handed pieces. Practicing is definitely what makes everyone so good at playing the piano. I was one of the ones who really didn't like practicing, but with the help of my parents and confidence, I was able to practice, and get better and better. For fun, I love to look up piano chords of my favorite songs, and learn to sing and play at the same time. I hadn't heard of them before, but finger exercise books can help train your fingers to move faster, and smoothly. It can be hard at first, but it's so fun once you get the hang of it. I think piano is a great instrument to play, and I hope you have fun playing it if you choose to do. I would say 1, if you never practice, and 10 if you practice as much as you can! :) Good luck and Enjoy! :) :) :)
Honestley its not very hard ide say 3 out of 10, but you might find it easier, as i did, to write all the notes on the keys in not permanent marker.it makes it so much easier 'cause then you can read the notes of a sheet whaatever and no exactley which keys to press. its so much easier, i probs wouldnt be able to play the pianio as fluentley as i can now if i didnt write on the notes!:) hopee i helped<3
It all depends on what kind of learner you are. I taught myself how to play piano by ear and now play like it's my best friend. I never took lessons and did fine. I compose my own songs and play in our school's jazz band, for several churches and in a band that has put on many shows. However, I never had problems with coordination (though I am ambidextrous). For me, learning was a 1 or 2. However, even if you are having trouble learning on your own if you take lessons you will learn one step at a time. So is you really want to learn and will put in the time and effort you will be playing like a pro in no time. Don't be afraid of the difficulty if you are a hard worker. I'm sure you will succeed; just stick with it!!!
If you just want to be an intermediate at piano then its not that hard. Probably a 5/10. If you want to become really good though, like a pro, it will take hours of practice and many years of practice (on a scale of 1-10 it'd be a 9 or 10).
you have to start at the beginning. you're not supposed to start with two hands...you learn the basics, practice, and get better. all of those amazing pianists began by playing a stuttering and shaky "twinkle twinkle little star".

you're question is like asking "on a scale of 1-10, how hard is it to run a mile in four minutes?" you have to work up to it. begin at the beginning. anything can be easy if you're patient.
Well the hardest part is starting I would say. I was terrified of playing the piano, so I never began but once I started it was really cool =], I learned to play using this product, you can get it buy going here:

Well, I'd say it's about a 5. If you take lessons, it helps a lot, because he/she can tell you if you mess up. But, on the other hand, some musical protigies taught themselves. When you have a teacher, you may or may not feel stresses out. Try asking you're family members if any of them play piano. If one says yes, then you have a teacher!
I took to it pretty naturally

I started on Guitar... then the "Chick Singer" in my band... could play guitar better than keys... so... I gravitated to the KEYBOARDS.

Of course I already knew musical theory and how to build chords... and all the notes... I just had to "translate" then to the keyboard... from the fret-board.
Any instrument is going to be hard to learn how to play. Learning requires dedication, time and patience. If you have that, then you'll learn how to play it.
Sheesh. How bad do you want to learn? On a scale of 10. Anything worth doing is never simple. The piano is easy to learn, but it takes years and years of practice. You up for it?
If you are dedicated, and have a good teacher, it will be very easy. But if you don't, you might get stuck in a rut.
Practice does it all. It is one of the easiest instruments, probably a 3/10. It is one of my favorites also. Hope this helps!
This would be a great question to ask your private teacher. If you don't have one: Get one.
